A HEX color code is a six-character alphanumeric code preceded by a hash symbol (#) that represents a color in the RGB color model. Each pair of characters represents the intensity of red, green, and blue respectively, using values from 00 to FF (0 to 255 in decimal). HEX codes are widely used in web design, digital graphics, and user interfaces due to their compact format and universal support.

Converting HEX to Pantone is essential when moving from digital design to physical production. While HEX codes work perfectly for screens and digital media, Pantone colors provide a standardized system for consistent color reproduction in printing, textiles, plastics, and other physical materials. This conversion ensures that the color you see on screen can be accurately matched in the final physical product.

The conversions are highly accurate for most practical purposes, using advanced color matching algorithms based on LAB color space calculations that align with human color perception. However, due to differences in color gamuts (the range of colors that can be reproduced) between digital displays and physical materials, some colors may not have perfect matches. The confidence score indicates how close the match is, with scores above 90% representing excellent matches.

Choose the library that corresponds to your production method: Print (TPX) for paper and cardstock printing, Textile (TCX) for fabrics and clothing, Plastics (PMS) for plastic products, and Solid Coated (C) for materials with a glossy or coated finish. The same base color can appear different on different materials, so selecting the correct library is crucial for accurate results.
